The record

Accuracy, counted rather than claimed.

Every run, a sample of this board’s published showtimes is re-read at the theater’s own surface, hours after we ingested them, and matched on film and clock time. On this board a second reading also runs: listings compared against a surface we did not ingest them from. What follows is that log, added up. It moves when the checks move, including down.

Where only one reader has spoken

In Contra Costa, the Imperial Valley, the Antelope Valley, the East Bay, Marin, the South Bay, Sacramento, Wine Country, Monterey Bay, the North State, the Sierra, the North Coast, Central Los Angeles, the Westside, the San Fernando Valley, the LA South Bay, the San Gabriel Valley, Orange County, San Diego, the Coachella Valley, the Inland Empire, the Central Valley, Kern County, the South Valley, Santa Barbara, the Central Coast, Ventura County, Oahu, Maui, Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Lakeland, Palm Bay, Cape Coral, North Port, Deltona, Naples, Tallahassee, Port St. Lucie, Ocala, Wildwood, every showtime is still re-read against the cinema’s own board — that is the check the pass rate above counts, and it runs everywhere. What does not run in those regions is the second reader: a separate source we consult to ask whether the whole night agrees, which today covers San Francisco only.

One reader confirming a showtime is a weaker thing than two readers agreeing about a night, and the difference is stated here rather than folded into a single number.

Where we cannot check ourselves

In the Big Island, the Peninsula, the Morongo Basin, Crestview, Gainesville, Pensacola, Homosassa Springs, Panama City, Sebastian, Lake City, Punta Gorda, Sebring, every cinema we list is served by a licensed feed rather than read from the operator’s own site. We can tell you what the feed says. We cannot independently confirm it, because there is no second source for these houses that we are permitted to read — so the pass rate above is not a claim about those regions.

That is a weaker guarantee than the rest of the board carries, and it is stated here rather than left to be inferred from a missing number.

Why some checks are not counted

A check can come back wrong for two very different reasons. Either the source disagreed with us — a title we do not list, a listing that surface has dropped, a link that opens on the wrong film — or the check never happened at all: a ticketing host answered with a bot challenge, a calendar rendered in the browser and served us an empty shell, a request timed out. The first kind is our problem and counts against the rate. The second says nothing about whether the showtime is right, so it is excluded from the denominator and reported separately, in the open, rather than folded in as a pass. A rate that quietly counts unreachable checks as successes is the easiest number in this business to inflate and the least worth having.

The rule, as the API states it: confirmed / (confirmed + missing). Unreachable checks are excluded — a bot wall is not evidence either way. null when nothing gradeable ran in the window. Read it next to first_check_at: a high rate over a young record is a young record.

Checks rotate — a few houses are cross-checked every run and the mystery shopper walks a sample of ticket links — so a house reading “not yet sampled” is waiting its turn, not failing. Two rows never get a turn, and the difference between them matters. “Not checkable — operator declines” is a house whose own site refuses automated reads; we honour the refusal, source those showtimes through a permitted channel named in the source column, and never disguise a request to get around it. “Not checkable — licensed feed” is ours, not theirs: we bought those showtimes from an aggregator, and re-reading the same feed would confirm it against itself, so the shopper refuses them outright. Both publish as single-source, because nothing second-checks them. Screening counts and fetch health for every house are on the status board.

The same figures, machine-readable and open, at /api/accuracy — this page is that payload, read aloud. How the checks are run, and what the four confidence levels mean, is written out on the methodology page.
