Rock Ross: Go Like This

Rock Ross: Go Like This surveys 20 years of the filmmaker’s “frivolous and socially irresponsible films” (The Athens News), bringing together 16mm prints and camera originals from the Academy Film Archive and Canyon Cinema collections. Highlights include Ross’s ode to surf culture, Sosueme (1988); the “cruelty free” Mothlight parody Baglight (1996), in which no critters were harmed; the eponymous Go Like This, an adrenalized nocturnal foray through the streets of San Francisco; the frenzied goddess film Exclaim Her Limitless Wisdom (1984); and the playful scratch animation Psycho Porpoise (2002). The program concludes with Ross’s Stupor Mundi (1996), an allegorical homage to silent films, with live piano accompaniment by Will Lewis. With special thanks to Mark Toscano and the Academy Film Archive. Stupor Mundi still courtesy of Walker Art Center.
